Our training team brings significant real-life experience and expertise in law enforcement to all of our classes and services. We have held a wide variety of positions including academy staff & instructor, state-wide training coordinator, SWAT team leader, CSI investigator, detective, and Field Training Officer to name a few.
We have experience working in both larger and smaller agencies as well as for municipal agencies and sheriff's departments.
We have taught members of nearly every law enforcement agency in the state.
Training for Transfer instructors have a wide scope of experience in training law enforcement personnel in many disciplines. These include skills areas such as firearms, arrest control, and defensive tactics; also specialty topics such as sniper skills, dynamic entry tactics, use of force decisions, crime prevention, community policing, and street survival methods. We also have significant time as trainers in fundamental operations such as report writing, FTO, interviewing skills, and legal footing. Our training team has collectively written hundreds of training plans, manuals, courses, and instructional aids.
Our staff has many years of experience in providing training to fellow instructors and training unit managers. These experiences as trainers in law enforcement disciplines allows our staff to focus on providing fellow trainers with skills that matter.
Training for Transfer instructors focus on providing training skills and techniques which efficiently and effectively address real-life issues with practical and proven techniques. Each class is designed to provide specific skills, but also allows for addressing individual issues trainers may face.
We continuously review and revise our classes to ensure that the content is up-to-date and based on current evidence-informed instructional practices and legal requirements. We are dedicated to creating highly interactive classes that realistically address the needs of those who are attending and their students.
Will comes from a family of educators and trainers and throughout his professional career has often found himself in training and leadership roles. Will started his law enforcement career at Colorado State University Police Department while completing his bachelors degree. Will then worked as a police officer at the Lakewood Police Department in Lakewood, Colorado for 16 years. He spent the majority of his time working in patrol, with periods assigned to investigations, special enforcement, training, and served for many years on the SWAT team. As with the rest of his work career, he took on training and leadership roles while working at the police department. In an effort to increase his effectiveness and knowledge base, Will attended the University of Wyoming where he completed his Masters Degree in Adult Education with a focus in Instructional Design & Technology.
Will also serves as an Instructional Designer and firearms instructor for a front range sheriff's department. He has developed numerous training plans, programs, promotional processes, and coordinated several training initiatives for the Sheriff's Department.
Will teaches the Train the Trainer, Trainer Skills Development, Building Training Scenarios, Training Unit Management, and Blue ICS classes.
Before joining TLCM, Janet was the Training Director for the County Sheriffs of Colorado. In that role, she developed and managed advanced training for law enforcement agencies in the state, providing more than 60 classes per year and working with 70 independent contractors who instructed in seven different skill areas. She previously served six years as Manager of the Training Unit at Broomfield Police Department where she planned and coordinated all in-service training and the field training programs for patrol, detention, community service officers, communications, and records. In these assignments, Janet authored dozens of lesson plans, manuals and assessment instruments.
Janet also served as an officer for ten years at Longmont Police Department working in patrol, investigations division, and managing the crime prevention programs. While an officer at Longmont PD Janet began teaching at the Colorado Law Enforcement Training Academy in the areas of Crime Prevention and Community Policing.
These varied experiences have given Janet considerable insight into the training needs of law enforcement agencies throughout the state. In 2017, Janet was appointed to serve on the Colorado POST Curriculum SME committee and is currently the chair. She majored in Philosophy at the University of Southern Colorado, now Colorado State University at Pueblo, and has received a paralegal certificate from the Denver Paralegal Institute.
Janet teaches the Train the Trainer, FTO Development, Trainer Skills Development, Supervisory Institute, and Training Unit Management classes.
Kent is currently a Commander for a front range police agency, where he has worked for over 20 years. He began his law enforcement career with the Colorado State University Police Department, working as a student Public Safety Officer and later a 911 Emergency Dispatcher. While at CSU, he completed his Bachelor of Science in Human Development and Family Studies. At his current agency, he has worked as a field training officer, supervisor, and coordinator. He spent several years as a school resource officer, focusing on school safety and single officer response to active threats. He also oversees his department’s crisis negotiations team, serving as a negotiator, team leader, and now Commander.
Kent enjoys being an instructor and facilitator and began teaching the FTO Development course for County Sheriffs of Colorado. After obtaining his Masters in Criminal Justice from the University of Cincinnati, he taught criminal justice courses for Front Range Community College. In 2024, he was appointed to serve on the Colorado POST Academy Alignment Team, helping to ensure high quality basic law enforcement training.
Kent teaches the FTO Development, Supervisory Institute, & Training Unit Management courses.
John is a Sergeant for a northern Colorado Sheriff’s Office where he has worked for over 25 years. He currently supervises the Booking Area. He is also the Field Training Coordinator, Gang/STG Coordinator, a Peer Support Team member, Academy Instructor and trained in Crisis Intervention. As the Field Training Coordinator, he oversees the 20 Deputy FTO Cadre and an average of 40+ new hires per year. John has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Colorado State University.
John teaches the FTO Development and Supervisory Institute courses.
Vincent is an experienced Police Officer, currently working for a northern Colorado municipal agency. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Masters of Education, both from Colorado State University. During his time in Law Enforcement he has served as a FTO for several years, and a lead trainer in Patrol Tactics and Active Violence Response. Vincent is currently serving on the Colorado POST Curriculum Committee.
Vince teaches the Train the Trainer, Building Training Scenarios, and Trainer Skills classes.
Mike is a Training & Development Coordinator with a front range Sheriff’s Office, training both sworn and non-sworn personnel across the agency. He has prior experience as a law enforcement officer for a municipal police agency as well as a Sheriff’s Office. He also spent time as an investigator in the private sector. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Metropolitan State University. He was certified by the National Institute of Ethics as a Law Enforcement Ethics Instructor. Mike teaches the Train the Trainer course.
