The Train the Trainer is a week-long instructor development class that fulfills the Colorado POST Instructional Methodology Program requirements to be certified as an academy instructor in Colorado.
This course prepares instructors to develop and deliver training in a variety of classroom and skills-based settings. It is a highly interactive, performance-based class. During the class students will have the opportunity to work with a small group to practice the concepts presented during class to develop, document, and present an original training. Through the course of the week students will also give other shorter training presentations that are from provided lesson plans, from other provided content in the class, as well as drawing on their prior knowledge and training.
All of the content of this class is based on evidence-informed adult learning concepts from both academics and work-place research. The class models how to build engaging, highly effective training for law enforcement agencies and then asks the students to do that during the class.
This class is often offered through regional grants. Classes scheduled in that manner can be found on our Upcoming Classes page. We will also schedule this class for individual agencies. If you are interested in holding a Train the Trainer class for your agency please contact us and we can discuss that process.
The instructors worked very hard all week, always made time for questions.
This class showed me how to go from teaching students to training students!
This class increased my confidence in presenting and training.
There is a lot to cover in the class, but I enjoyed the pace. And the way the material was introduced made it easier to follow and understand.
Finally someone explained the nuts and bolts of lesson plans! Very beneficial.
The whole class was very refreshing. I learned a lot in every topic.
Probably the most professional instructors I’ve had.
