In these times of dwindling hiring pools, it is important that each recruit in an FTO, DTO, or CTO program be given effective training that offers every reasonable opportunity to succeed as a new officer, deputy, or dispatcher without sacrificing the standards of the agency. Learning in the field training environment depends on high quality training, practice, feedback, and the efforts of committed FTOs. The FTO Development Course uses the San Jose Model of evaluation and provides the field training officer the tools to be an effective one-on-one trainer and coach.
The class is structured to use the participants’ own experiences as a foundation to increase their understanding of the principles of learning and evaluation in realistic situations.

As with all of our classes the FTO Development course was developed for Colorado Law Enforcement Agencies by Colorado Law Enforcement Personnel.
This class is often offered through regional grants. Classes scheduled in that manner can be found on our Upcoming Classes page. We will also schedule this class for individual agencies.
