Training Needs Analysis

What is the Training Needs Analysis? 

Colorado POST rules require that an analysis of training needs for each Training Region occur every three years.  To help accomplish this analysis, we are conducting a survey of training topics, courses, and equipment needs.  Information supplied by agencies is collected, collated, analyzed, and provided to Colorado POST and each training region’s governing board. 

How is the survey conducted? 

The survey consists of questions about each agency's training efforts, regional trainings, needed training topics for the future, equipment needs, and satisfaction with the region and POST.  The questions and topics in the survey were created using input from key stakeholders from each region and were reviewed and approved by representatives from POST.

We are asking for a response from every law enforcement agency in Colorado.  We are then compiling those responses by region.  Surveys are being provided to every agency in the state through a link to our survey platform, SurveyPlanet.  If your agency did not receive a link to the survey, or was unable to complete the survey please contact us at the email listed below.

Who should complete the survey? 

The surveys have been sent to personnel listed at POST as their agency's official representative.  In some instances, the recipient of the survey will need to pass it on to a different member of their agency who is assigned to the training unit or oversees the training initiatives at that agency. 

Only one survey per agency can be accepted.  We invite you to seek input from members of your agency who have first hand knowledge or experiences with training, but please consolidate those responses onto one survey for submission. 

What are the dates and deadlines associated with the survey and analysis project? 

• Initial distribution of surveys to agencies:  November 3, 2025
• Deadline for survey return:  December 1, 2025
• Tabulate and synthesize data from returned surveys:  December, 2025
• Distribute final documents to the Regions and POST:  January, 2026
